Port Orford Community Co-op Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Review

We would like to share Port Orford Community Co-op’s achievements from last Fiscal Year, beginning October 1, 2023 ending September 30, 2024.

Members are vital to our success. A breakdown of total sales; Members 68.24% and Non-members 31.75%.  In appreciation for member support, each member received a $5.00 gift certificate when we reached 500 memberships. We now have 523 memberships.   Membership Appreciation Day was expanded from one Saturday each quarter to the first Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of the quarter, providing more available produce, product and opportunity to shop.  This year member discounts totaled $7564 which included $2190 membership appreciation day and $5454 in member special order savings.

Volunteers are a crucial part of POCC’s ability to function successfully.  We have 25 volunteers working in varying capacities. Weekly volunteer hours average 100 hours.  Volunteers receive discounts according the number of hours worked.  Volunteer discounts totaled $30728. We are extremely grateful for their dedication.

Supporting the community is a part of the Co-op’s mission.  We donated to Meals for Neighbors, Rotary, Driftwood SMART reading program, two scholarships for Pacific High senior graduates, the Port Orford community building fund, Siskiyou Discovery School, Pacific High yearbook, Pacific High prom and the Buffington Park playground equipment fund. We continue to be a drop off point for Valley Flora CSA and Azure customers.

We made improvements to our store; purchased new gondola shelving, wine display, restored the outside mural and installed a picnic table for an eating area.  A beautiful wooden bread rack and end cap, built and installed by a talented volunteer, allowed us to expand our bread offerings such as locally baked gluten free breads.

We brought on new vendors providing more local farm produce, products and a greater wine selection. We purchased a used van allowing us to increase our produce and product offerings.  The van is filled to capacity on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when we pick up orders from Coos Bay and Valley Flora. This summer Little Plant Food truck parked at the Co-op once a week to offer customers delicious healthy food options

We improved utilization of our computer system, COPOS, for greater inventory and ordering efficiency.

A Future’s Committee was created to develop projects, processes and hiring a new employee.  In September we hired our second part time employee, Ledeen Rickey.  We are delighted to have her on our team. The committee is working on improving our parking lot, additional refrigeration capacity, volunteer recruitment and training, store front beautification, improved communication with customers, and future hiring of a produce manager.

It was a busy and successful year for our Port Orford Community Co-op.  Thank you, loyal members!
